ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has welcomed the World Bank’s efforts during fiscal year 2026 to mobilise private capital for development and its commitment to working more closely and swiftly with countries and investors.
In a post on X, the Ministry of Finance said the World Bank’s efforts underscored the importance of attracting greater private investment to support sustainable human capital development, improve livelihoods and strengthen economies for sustained growth.
“Pakistan remains firmly committed to strengthening the business environment, ensuring policy predictability, improving the investment climate and advancing reforms to support private-sector-led growth,” the ministry said.
It said Pakistan valued its partnership with the World Bank and looked forward to deepening cooperation to unlock new investment, mobilise greater private capital, accelerate economic growth and support job creation.
The ministry added that closer cooperation would also help translate development opportunities into tangible economic benefits for the people.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the market open ceremony at the London Stock Exchange, where Pakistan’s $3 billion dual-tranche Eurobonds were listed.
According to the Finance Ministry, the transaction marked Pakistan’s largest-ever international capital market transaction and attracted nearly $6 billion in orders.
Addressing the ceremony, Shehbaz invited international business stakeholders to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan and highlighted the government’s efforts to improve the investment environment.
The prime minister said Pakistan was committed to promoting peace in the region and that efforts in this direction would be strengthened further.
He said security and safety remained among the government’s top priorities and assured foreign investors of a secure environment for investment across different sectors.
The ceremony was held at the London Stock Exchange Group headquarters at Paternoster Square, where London Stock Exchange Group CEO David Schwimmer and senior officials welcomed the prime minister.
Shehbaz’s participation in the ceremony highlighted Pakistan’s growing engagement with London’s financial institutions and came as Islamabad seeks to attract greater foreign investment and expand access to international capital markets.
