Parachinar Airport reopens after long closure

Upgraded facility declared operational after successful trial flights, boosting regional connectivity

PARACHINAR: Parachinar Airport has been reopened after a prolonged closure, marking a significant development for the region’s connectivity and infrastructure.

According to official details, the airport has been restored and upgraded through the joint efforts of the Frontier Works Organisation and the Pakistan Airports Authority, and has now entered its operational phase.

On April 26, aviation authorities conducted landing and takeoff trials, successfully carrying out six flight operations during the testing phase.

Officials confirmed that the runway and associated facilities meet international safety and operational standards, paving the way for regular use.

The operationalisation of the airport is expected to improve regional connectivity, strengthen emergency response capabilities, and contribute to local economic activity in Kurram District.

Last year, teams from the Pakistan Airports Authority and Pakistan International Airlines visited the site to assess its viability for commercial and humanitarian operations, while an eight-member committee was formed to review infrastructure and recommend its reopening.
