Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar is poised to participate in the 54th World Economic Forum (WEF) annual summit in Davos, Switzerland, scheduled from January 15 to 19. The World Economic Forum (WEF) serves as a platform for global leaders to discuss current issues and collaborate on potential policy solutions, with this year’s theme being “Rebuilding Trust.”
During the forum, Kakar is slated to engage in three crucial thematic events, focusing on preventing global conflict, restoring faith in the global system, and averting economic fractures, according to Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch. The premier will also deliver a keynote address on the theme “Trade Tech’s Trillion Dollar Promise” and hold meetings with government and business leaders on the sidelines.
In her weekly press briefing, Baloch emphasized Pakistan’s rejection of the US State Department’s classification of the country as a “Country of Particular Concern (CPC),” questioning the credibility and transparency of the process. She stated that such unilateral designations are counterproductive and undermine the goal of advancing religious freedoms.
Addressing international concerns, Baloch highlighted Pakistan’s support for South Africa’s application before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding Israel’s violations of the 1951 Genocide Convention in Gaza. She deemed the legal action timely and crucial for holding Israel accountable for documented atrocities against the Palestinian people.
The FO spokesperson also noted the observance of the Right to Self-Determination Day for the people of Jammu and Kashmir on January 5. She underscored the significance of the UN resolution adopted in 1949, guaranteeing a free and fair plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir, reaffirming the legal right of people to determine their destiny.
