ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said rising terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa must be stopped at all costs, as the province continues to face attacks targeting security and law enforcement personnel.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam, during which matters relating to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were discussed.
The prime minister said the sacrifices rendered by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the fight against terrorism were deeply valued.
“We want Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to develop like other parts of the country,” Shehbaz said.
Muqam briefed the prime minister on ongoing matters and development progress in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Shehbaz directed that efforts aimed at public welfare, development and provision of basic facilities should continue.
He said development and prosperity of the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan remained among the government’s priorities.
The meeting comes as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed several terrorist incidents in recent days.
On Wednesday, four police personnel were injured when unidentified attackers opened fire on a police checkpoint in Kohat.
A day earlier, four Customs officials were killed in an attack near Qureshi Mor Abhaya Bridge in Dera Ismail Khan district.
In a separate incident near Mufti Mahmood Chowk within the limits of Dera Police Station, terrorists targeted a traffic police mobile, killing constable driver Muhammad Habib.
