Islamabad: President Dr. Arif Alvi approved the summary of the appointment of Army Chief and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee sent by the Prime Minister.
After the meeting with Imran Khan, the President held a meeting with the legal experts in the President’s House and approved the recommendation to be sent by the Prime Minister under Article 243 of the Constitution.
After the President’s approval of the summary, Lt. Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza was appointed as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Lt. Gen. Syed Asim Munir as the Chief of Army Staff.
After the approval of the President, the summary will be received by the Prime Minister House, after which an official notification of the appointment of the Army Chief and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee will be issued by the Ministry of Defence.

According to the sources, the newly appointed Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Sahir Shamshad reached the Prime Minister House after the approval of the summary and met Shahbaz Sharif. The Prime Minister congratulated Sahir Shamshad on getting the post.
Sources say that the new Army Chief General Asim Munir and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad will meet President Arif Alvi shortly.
Earlier, the prime minister decided to promote Lt. Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza to the rank of general and appoint Lt. Gen. Syed Asim Munir as the chief of the army staff and sent the summary to the president’s office for approval.
A federal cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the appointment of the Army Chief, in which Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Sherry Rehman, Aoun Chaudhry, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Aminul Haq, Shah Zain Bugti, Maulana Asad Mehmood and Riaz Pirzada participated.
