Malakand: A professor at the University of Malakand has been taken into custody by the police following accusations of sexually harassing female students, confirmed Additional Deputy Commissioner Muhibullah Khan on Sunday.
According to the statement issued by the additional deputy commissioner, a female student lodged a formal complaint against the professor, alleging that he had been harassing her for the past several months and seeking police intervention.
“A case has been registered against the accused under multiple provisions,” stated the deputy commissioner, adding that an investigation has been launched to ascertain further details regarding the allegations.
The complainant detailed in her First Information Report (FIR) that the professor had persistently harassed her and had even attempted to abduct her from her residence. These grave allegations prompted swift action from both law enforcement and the University of Malakand administration.
In response to the incident, the university administration confirmed that the accused professor was suspended immediately following his arrest. Additionally, the matter has been referred to the university’s harassment committee for departmental action.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has taken notice of the incident and has ordered a thorough inquiry into the alleged misconduct at the university.

A two-member investigative committee has been formed, consisting of Administration Department Additional Secretary Asif Rahim and KP Police AIG Establishment Sonia Shamroz. According to an official notification issued by the KP Chief Minister’s Secretariat, the committee will visit the university, collect statements from all relevant parties, and compile an investigative report.
The probe committee has been given a 15-day deadline to submit its findings. The outcome of the investigation is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring justice and establishing a safer environment for students at the institution.
This case has sparked widespread discussion regarding the prevalence of harassment in academic institutions and the necessity for stringent policies to protect students from such misconduct.
