In a shocking turn of events, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyers attacked former first lady Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband, Khawar Maneka, at a district and sessions court in Islamabad on Wednesday. Maneka was present for a hearing related to the un-Islamic nikah case.
The incident occurred during the hearing of appeals filed by Bushra Bibi and her husband, PTI founder Imran Khan, against their conviction in the iddat case. Judge Shahrukh Arjumand abruptly went into his chamber without announcing the verdict, prompting a chaotic reaction in the courtroom.
PTI lawyers began hurling bottles, leading Maneka’s lawyers to swiftly escort him out of the courtroom. Despite their efforts, a PTI lawyer managed to attack Maneka within the court premises, causing him to fall to the ground.

The court had reserved its verdict on the appeals on May 23, with the decision expected to be announced today.
Khawar Maneka had moved the court in January, challenging the validity of Khan and Bushra Bibi’s marriage. He claimed that their nikah was fraudulent as it was solemnized during Bushra’s iddat period — the mandatory isolation period following a woman’s divorce or her husband’s death.
In February, the trial court sentenced Khan and Bushra Bibi to seven years in prison each and imposed a fine of Rs500,000. The court’s 51-page detailed verdict stated that evidence showed the couple was in a relationship before their “fraudulent” nikah in 2018.
