PTI Leader Asad Qaiser Released on Bail

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former speaker of the National Assembly, Asad Qaiser, was released from jail on Wednesday after securing bail in three cases related to maintenance of public order (MPO). The MPO orders were issued by the district administrations of Mardan, Charsadda, and Swabi, leading to his arrest on December 8.

Qaiser had already obtained bail in the cases registered in Mardan and Charsadda on May 9. Additionally, he was granted bail in the Swabi case by the district and sessions court. However, his legal challenges persist, with corruption charges looming over his involvement in the procurement of equipment for Gajju Khan Medical College in Swabi.

Arrested by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) on November 3 at his residence in Bani Gala, Islamabad, Asad Qaiser was initially released on bail by an anti-corruption court on November 24.

However, his legal woes resurfaced on December 2 when he was re-arrested in connection with a new case registered in Mardan district.

The ACE alleges that Qaiser, during his tenure as the speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, caused financial losses to the national exchequer by awarding contracts to relatives and friends.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment further claims that Asad Qaiser misused his authority and violated rules and regulations in the procurement of medical equipment for Gajju Khan Medical College.

The allegations revolve around Qaiser allegedly favoring his associates in the awarding of contracts, leading to financial losses and breaching established procedures.
