Islamabad: President Arif Alvi expressed his admiration for the work of Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, underlining the nation’s high hopes for him to fulfill their expectations. President Alvi clarified that he did not initiate the reference against Justice Isa, and it was forwarded to him from the Prime Minister’s House. He noted that the former prime minister later expressed reservations about the reference.
Discussing the upcoming elections, President Alvi shared his uncertainty about the scheduled January elections, citing the country’s current state. He emphasized the need for immediate, transparent elections, asserting that the people’s participation in shaping the nation’s future would benefit the economy.
President Alvi also appreciated the statement made by Nawaz Sharif regarding avoiding revenge-seeking and the PML-N’s quest for a new narrative. He highlighted a recent PML-N survey indicating the public’s desire for the party to move forward collectively, emphasizing the importance of a level playing field in the political landscape.
Condemning the May 9 incident as the country’s president, Alvi reiterated his stance against violence, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful and inclusive society.
Regarding his constitutional responsibilities, President Alvi stated that he would continue to fulfill his role until the next president is elected. He also discussed the challenges facing Pakistan’s democratic system and the possibility of the government not completing its term.
President Alvi recounted an incident related to the Election Act and the challenges surrounding the upcoming census. He expressed his frustration at the election commissioner’s non-appearance for a meeting on elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and reiterated his belief that elections should be held by November 6.
Turning his attention to international affairs, President Alvi expressed his concern for the ongoing violence in Palestine and the suffering of innocent children. He stressed the importance of peace in the region, emphasizing that it would be in the best interest of all parties involved.
