Results of Senate by-elections
National Assembly:
PPP’s Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, a joint candidate of the ruling coalition, retained his seat in the National Assembly with a decisive win. Out of 301 votes cast, Gillani secured 204 votes, reaffirming his influence in the political arena. His victory positions him as a potential contender for the coveted Senate chairman’s position.
Sindh Assembly:
In Sindh, PPP’s Jam Saifullah Khan Dharejo and Muhammad Aslam Abro emerged victorious, securing 58 and 57 votes respectively out of 124. This outcome marks a continuation of PPP’s stronghold in the region, with the party effectively filling the vacant Senate seats left by former senators Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and Jam Mehtab Dahar.
Balochistan Assembly:
The Balochistan Assembly witnessed a competitive race with seven candidates vying for three Senate seats. PPP’s Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, PML-N’s Mir Dostain Khan Domki, and JUI-F’s Abdul Shakoor Khan emerged triumphant, solidifying PPP’s presence in the province. Notably, former senators Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti, and Prince Ahmad Umar Ahmadzai’s transition to other political roles paved the way for this significant electoral reshuffle.
