Ruling coalition parties decision to bring contempt of parliament bill

Islamabad: Government coalition parties have decided to bring the contempt of parliament bill while the Privileges Committee of the National Assembly has approved the proposed draft.

The in-camera meeting of the Rules and Privileges Committee of the National Assembly was chaired by Chairman Rana Qasim Noon. In which, after detailed consideration on the draft of the contempt of parliament bill, it was agreed and it was decided that like other provinces, the contempt of parliament law will be approved by the National Assembly and the Senate.

After the approval of the bill, any person can be summoned for contempt of parliament, while punishments will be applied if contempt of parliament is found to be a crime. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Chairman Committee Rana Qasim Noon said that a decision has been taken to bring the contempt of parliament bill in the committee and the PDM parties have agreed on the contempt of parliament bill. Jaiga will appear as a private member.

The chairman committee said that the law of contempt of parliament is the need of the hour, we were working on it for a long time, this bill has been approved by Punjab Assembly, KP, Sindh Balochistan Assembly. The contempt of parliament bill needs time to enhance the committee’s functionality and prestige.

Rana Qasim Noon said that anyone who insults Parliament will be punished, not the name of any institution, the law of insulting Parliament will apply to any person.

The chairman committee said that insult can be inflicted on the judges of the Supreme Court of Parliament as well. It is written in Article 68 that the judge can be summoned. Read Article 68 in this regard. The law of contempt of parliament will also apply to persons sitting in all institutions.
