Islamabad: Former interior minister Rana Sanaullah has strongly criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for its decision to pursue legal action in international courts. Sanaullah alleges that PTI’s leader is being manipulated by anti-Pakistan forces with the aim of tarnishing the nation’s reputation.
Sanaullah asserts that those opposing Pakistan, along with their supporters, are providing financial backing to assist PTI in involving the international community in damaging Pakistan’s image.
He further argues that PTI’s rise to power has had adverse effects on Pakistan’s economy and foreign relations. Sanaullah also alleges that the party’s leaders have fostered animosity among the youth, potentially pushing them toward acts of violence.
These remarks come in response to PTI’s engagement of British human rights lawyer Geoffrey Robertson to represent their leader in a case related to “unlawful detention and human rights abuses.”
Currently, the PTI chief is serving a three-year jail sentence and a Rs 100,000 fine. Despite the suspension of the sentence by the Islamabad High Court (IHC), he remains in custody due to his judicial remand in another case until September 13. This additional case was initiated by the Federal Investigation Agency, accusing him of disclosing state secrets under the Official Secrets Act.
