‘Will not spare you’ Imran Khan warns NAB Chairman, and IO

Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), issued a stern warning to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman and investigation officer (IO) on Friday, threatening legal action over the cases filed against him and his wife, Bushra Bibi.

During a hearing in a new Toshakhana reference, Khan confronted NAB IO Mohsin Haroon, accusing him of fabricating cases that have led to his wife’s imprisonment. “My spouse is facing imprisonment due to cases concocted by you,” Khan told the investigation officer while pointing a finger at him.

The former prime minister, who was ousted from office in 2022 via a no-confidence motion, warned both the IO and the NAB chairman that he would take them to court once he is released from jail. This heated exchange occurred during the couple’s judicial remand extension in the ongoing Toshakhana reference, which involves a jewelry set gifted to Bushra Bibi by the Saudi crown prince during Khan’s tenure as prime minister.

Notably, this isn’t the first time Khan has issued threats to public officials. In a previous high-profile case involving Judge Zeba Chaudhry, Khan made similar remarks, vowing to take action against officials involved in what he claimed were unjust proceedings against his party leader, Shahbaz Gill.

Following the confrontation, the NAB prosecution team requested an adjournment of the hearing, citing the need to review the Supreme Court’s verdict on NAB amendments. The accountability court subsequently postponed the proceedings until September 9.

Internal PTI Plotting Against Gandapur

After the hearing, Imran Khan addressed journalists, expressing concerns over internal party conflicts. Without naming individuals, Khan claimed that certain members were plotting against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. He warned his party members not to undermine Gandapur and emphasized that this was not the time for internal differences. Khan made it clear that those involved in the plot should not expect election tickets in the future.

Bushra Bibi’s Legal Battle Continues

Bushra Bibi, the former first lady, remains incarcerated despite several acquittals. Initially arrested in January and placed under house arrest, she was later transferred to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. Although she and Khan were acquitted in the iddat case and saw their Toshakhana sentence suspended by the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Bushra continues to face charges in other cases, including the £190 million NCA scandal and the new Toshakhana reference.

The legal battles involving the PTI founder and his wife continue to unfold, as the couple remains entangled in a series of high-profile cases.
