The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced plans to host a thrilling tri-series for the first time in two decades. The decision came to fruition after a productive meeting between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and counterparts from Cricket South Africa (CSA) and New Zealand Cricket (NZC).
During the meeting, which convened the heads of PCB, CSA Chairman Lawson Naidoo, and NZC Chairman Roger Twose, discussions centered around the organization of an ODI tri-series involving Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand. Scheduled for February 2025, just ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, this event promises to captivate cricket fans worldwide.
A statement issued by the PCB highlighted the unanimous agreement reached among the participating boards, solidifying Pakistan’s role as the host nation for this landmark tournament. Expressing gratitude for the cooperation extended by CSA and NZC, Chairman Mohsin Naqvi extended invitations to Twose and Naidoo for an official visit to Pakistan.

“The Tri-series between Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand will be an exciting event, marking a significant milestone for cricket in Pakistan. We are immensely thankful to NZC and CSA for their commitment to participate,” remarked Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, emphasizing the significance of this sporting spectacle.
Naqvi further underscored PCB’s eagerness to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, emphasizing Pakistan’s readiness to welcome the top eight ODI teams to its shores. The upcoming tri-series not only reflects the resurgence of international cricket in Pakistan but also serves as a prelude to the prestigious ICC tournament.
The announcement revives memories of Pakistan’s last tri-series hosted in October 2004, featuring Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe as visiting teams.
