Pakistani consul general highlights climate action, youth role at Dubai documentary screening

‘The Last Village’ screening engages diaspora, youth on climate change and community resilience

DUBAI: Consul General of Pakistan Hussain Muhammad attended an event organised by Earth Warriorz and the Pakistan Youth Forum (PYF) at the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD), featuring the screening of the documentary “The Last Village”, aimed at engaging Pakistani youth and the diaspora in dialogue on climate change and community resilience.

Addressing the gathering, the consul general appreciated the efforts of Earth Warriorz founder Emaan Danish and her team, and commended PYF for mobilising young Pakistanis on an issue of global and national importance.

Highlighting Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change, Hussain Muhammad said the country remains among the most affected despite contributing less than one percent to global greenhouse gas emissions. He outlined Pakistan’s commitments under its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0), including emissions reduction targets, expansion of renewable energy, and large-scale afforestation initiatives.

He stressed the need for enhanced global cooperation, increased climate finance, and technology transfer, urging developed countries to support developing nations in building climate resilience.

Underscoring the critical role of youth in climate action, the consul general encouraged collective efforts toward a more sustainable and resilient future. He said the documentary The Last Village effectively highlights the severe impact of climate change on vulnerable communities in Swat, Pakistan, and emphasised that climate change is not only an environmental issue but also a humanitarian and socio-economic challenge.
