ATC postpones Parvez Elahi’s bail hearing yet again

Islamabad: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has postponed the hearing for Parvez Elahi’s bail application until September 15. The former chief minister has been in custody since September 8, facing charges related to the March 18 riots outside the Federal Judicial Complex.

The proceedings were presided over by Justice Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain. Parvez Elahi’s legal representative, Abdul Raziq, appeared before the court and revealed that the prosecution had not yet submitted the requested medical test results for the accused.

Previously, the court had instructed the superintendent of Adiala jail to provide the necessary records in response to the lawyer’s request. However, during the latest court session, it became apparent that the police had not submitted the required documents.

Consequently, the ATC in Islamabad reiterated its call for the police to promptly furnish the essential records and adjourned the hearing to September 15.

In a related development, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) held a hearing on Parvez Elahi’s application to declare the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) order null and void. The District Magistrate of Islamabad withdrew the detention order of Parvez Elahi, and the IHC subsequently disposed of the petition. The court ordered the release of Parvez Elahi after suspending the MPO order.

These legal proceedings mark a significant development in the case of Parvez Elahi, and further updates are anticipated as the situation unfolds.
