ECP Wraps Up Printing 260 Million Ballot Papers for 2024 Elections

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has accomplished the printing of 260 million ballot papers, ensuring a meticulous and timely process. The ECP spokesperson revealed that National Assembly ballots are easily identifiable by their green hue, while Provincial Assembly ballots are distinctly printed on white paper. With the exception of 31 districts, the distribution of these printed ballot papers has been successfully finalized across the entire nation.

The ambitious printing endeavor, which commenced on January 14, reached its conclusion on February 3, marking a crucial milestone in the election preparations. In adherence to a directive from the Supreme Court, the ECP initiated a reprinting process for ballots in 11 National Assembly and five Provincial Assembly constituencies. The original ballots are set for destruction as per the court order, ensuring compliance and integrity in the electoral process.

ECP officials disclosed that this election cycle witnessed a notable surge in candidates, with a 54.74% increase compared to the 2018 elections, leading to the printing of a total of 260 million ballot papers. Despite a substantial 195% surge in demand for special paper, effective management strategies were implemented, resulting in a reduction from 2400 tonnes to 2177 tonnes.

The distribution of the printed ballot papers reflects various formats, including 5% single-column, 50% double-column, 30% three-column, 11.15% four-column, and 2.4% five-column, gearing up for the scheduled polls on February 8. As political parties and independent candidates actively engage in campaigns, the election drive is set to conclude on February 6 at 12 pm.
