DUBAI: Friends of Karachi hosted a ‘Haleem Dawat’ in Dubai which was attended by former minister of religious affairs Ijazul Haq, former minister Babar Ghori, former provincial minister Owais Muzaffar Tippi and former ambassador of Pakistan to US Hussain Haqqani and along with UAE’s famous business personalities including Najeeb Haroon, Asif Jabbar, Arif Polani, Haji Yasin and others.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, former federal minister Ijazul Haq said that there is a contradiction between Pakistan and democracy. “There is no democracy, even in political parties,” he said. “If the politicians don’t have flexibility, problems cannot be solved.”
Ijazul Haq did not comment on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan’s court case. “It is not appropriate to say anything. If not today, then the elections will be held tomorrow. People will decide,” he said.
He said political stability was key to a country’s development.
Former federal minister Babar Ghauri said that the improvement of the country’s economy should be the first priority. “Urgent steps are needed to improve the economic system,” he said. “Whether the government is formed by election or a new government is formed on other constitutional basis, the focus should be on the improvement of the economy.”
Hussain Haqqani, the former ambassador of Pakistan to the United States, said that he does not want to discuss political issues in Dubai, “but the wish is that the condition of Pakistan improves, and everyone shows responsibility”.
