DUBAI: The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai (GDRFA Dubai) organised a “Virtual International Workers’ Day” event, bringing together more than 41,000 workers through a hybrid model that blended live digital broadcasting with on-ground activities across the emirate.
According to organisers, 41,272 workers participated in the initiative, including over 5,000 who engaged through the “Blue Connect” mobile application, highlighting the growing role of digital platforms in workforce outreach.

The event featured competitions and raffles offering more than 100 prizes, including smartphones and grand rewards, supported by Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company in collaboration with multiple partner organisations.
Simultaneously, activities were held at 34 labour accommodations in Al Quoz and Jebel Ali, where more than 36,000 workers attended in person and viewed the live broadcast. Field visits were also conducted to recognise workers and acknowledge their contributions to Dubai’s development.
A key highlight of the initiative was the inclusion of video messages from workers’ families, aimed at strengthening emotional connections and recognising the social role of labourers within the community.
Major General Obaid Muhair bin Suroor, Deputy Director General of GDRFA Dubai and Chairman of the Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs, said the initiative reflects Dubai’s commitment to a human-centric approach that prioritises wellbeing and inclusivity. He added that adopting digital tools enables broader engagement and supports a balanced, sustainable work environment.

Colonel Omar Matar Al Mazina, Assistant Director General of the Labour Relations Regulation Sector, noted that combining field engagement with digital outreach ensured maximum participation and impact. He said such initiatives help foster a sense of belonging among workers while promoting a culture of mutual respect and partnership.

The event underscores Dubai’s continued efforts to enhance communication with its workforce through innovative and inclusive approaches, reinforcing their role as a vital pillar of the emirate’s growth.
