LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Sunday filed nomination papers to contest General Elections 2024 from Lahore’s National Assembly constituency NA-130.
Nawaz Sharif’s nomination papers were submitted to the returning officer concerned by former MPA and provincial minister Bilal Yasin. The returning officer has fixed December 26 for the scrutiny of the nomination papers, the official news agency reported.
Sunday was the last day of the extended deadline for submission of nomination papers.

At least 24 candidates have submitted their papers to contest General Elections 2024 from the constituency. The other candidates include PTI’s Dr Yasmin Rashid, PPP’s Ahmad Khan, PML-N’s Bilal Yasin and Waheed Alam Khan.
It is pertinent to mention here that Nawaz Sharif will also contest elections from Mansehra’s NA-15.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari filed nomination papers NA-194 (Larkana), historically considered to be the party’s stronghold.
After filing the nomination papers, Bilawal once again reiterated that PPP is not contesting elections against another political party, but against “inflation, poverty and unemployment”.
Maryam Nawaz submitted nomination papers from four Punjab Assembly constituencies – PP-159, PP-160, PP-165 and PP-80.
Bilawal had challenged the Sharif brothers in their stronghold of Lahore in the February 8 polls.
Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) patron-in-chief Jahangir Tareen has filed nomination papers form NA-155 and PP-227.
The deadline for filing nomination papers for the National Assembly and four provincial assemblies concluded today.
As per the schedule, scrutiny of the nomination papers will be carried out from December 25-30. Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be submitted until the 3rd of January and decisions on these appeals will be made by January 10.
The list of candidates will be displayed on January 11, and candidates would have the option to withdraw until January 12. The electoral symbols will be allotted on the 13th of January, and polling for the General Elections 2024 will be held on February 8.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan has given more time to foreign observers who want to monitor the general elections.
Now, they can submit their applications from December 31 to January 20.
