GILGIT: Former CM Survives Attempted Attack During Election Campaign

PTI strongly denounced the attack on Khurshid, demanding the immediate arrest and rigorous accountability of the culprits

Gilgit: Khalid Khurshid Khan, former Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan and current President of PTI’s G-B chapter, narrowly escaped a life-threatening attack while campaigning for elections on Monday.

The incident unfolded near Chogam in Astore when Khurshid’s convoy was forcefully stopped and subsequently came under gunfire.

Fortunately, Khan emerged unscathed, with only one of his associates sustaining minor injuries. The motives behind this attack remain unclear, prompting ongoing investigations.

Khan was en route to join fellow party members for an election campaign when assailants attempted to halt the convoy, leading to the gunfire.

In response, PTI has strongly denounced the attack on Khurshid, demanding the immediate arrest and rigorous accountability of the culprits. A PTI spokesperson warned, “The government will be held directly responsible should any harm befall our leaders, including Khurshid.”

This incident has raised serious concerns about the worsening security situation in Gilgit-Baltistan, casting a shadow over the upcoming elections in the region. Many now fear the possibility of further violence in the lead-up to the polls.
