Ministry of Defence holds 2nd UAE Worthiness and Safety Conference

Abu Dhabi: Under the patronage of His Excellency Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Bowardi, Minister of State for Defence Affairs, the Ministry of Defence is organising the second UAE Worthiness and Safety Conference on 21-22 February 2023, as part of IDEX and NAVDEX 2023 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), Abu Dhabi.

The Conference was inaugurated by His Excellency Major General Staff Salim Saeed Alshamsi, National Defence College Commandant, in the presence of official delegations from other countries, Defence Ministry senior officials, and a large number of experts in the fields of worthiness and safety.

The UAE Worthiness and Safety Conference provides a platform for promoting dialogue and exchanging knowledge and expertise on the latest trends in the fields of worthiness and safety. The Conference seeks to strengthen cooperation between military and civil institutions, highlight successful practices for improving the quality of safety initiatives and protecting against potential work hazards for Defence Ministry employees, as well as promote the exchange of ideas on safety awareness and self-protection.

The Conference also covers the importance of worthiness and safety on land and at sea, and will include a series of lectures and workshops that present a unique opportunity to benefit from the expert advice on a range of topics in these fields. Speakers include prominent local and international officials, academics, and senior military personnel who specialise in addressing challenges related to land and maritime worthiness and safety.

This event aligns with the UAE’s vision for enhancing cooperation and joint efforts with the international community, by providing an ideal platform for identifying the latest developments in the field of worthiness and safety.

In the first session of the Conference, Brigadier General Mohamed Abdulla Alnuaimi, Director General of Fire, Protection, and Safety Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Interior, discussed the role of the UAE Civil Defence in protecting lives against potential dangers through prevention and self-protection measures, and the importance of raising awareness on public safety and dealing with daily incidents involving fire.

In the second session of the Conference, Mr. William Johanson Langton, Registrar of Shipping and Principal Inspector in the Defence Maritime Regulator – UK Ministry of Defence, discussed the maritime military industries involving ships and equipment, and how to classify, examine, and certify them through the issuance of accreditation certificates. He also shared the UK’s approach to the classification of military shipping.

On its second day, the Conference will feature sessions on the safety of ports and marine facilities, and mental health in military organisations. Participants will have a great opportunity to exchange ideas and insights and propose innovative solutions, as well as learn about best industry practices.

The Conference is held as part of the 16th edition of the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX 2023) and the 7th edition of the Naval Defence & Maritime Security Exhibition (NAVDEX 2023), organised by ADNEC Group in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence. IDEX and NAVDEX 2023 will run for 5 days until 24 February 2023 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

This year’s edition is the most distinguished in the history of the two exhibitions, as it coincides with the 30th anniversary of the launch of IDEX, the leading event and the largest defence exhibition in the world.
