PM Kakar Directs Overhaul of FBR for Enhanced Performance

Islamabad: In a pivotal meeting chaired by Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Monday, key directives were issued to revamp the operational framework of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Emphasizing the critical role of modern technology, the prime minister underscored the need for a comprehensive strategy, collaboratively designed with input from all stakeholders, to elevate the performance of the taxation authority.

The meeting, attended by prominent figures including Caretaker Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, Advisor to PM Ahad Cheema, FBR Chairman, federal finance secretary, and other senior officers, focused on measures to widen the tax net and digitize the taxation system.

Prime Minister Kakar highlighted the significance of revenue collection as the backbone of the national economy. He stressed that leveraging modern technology is inevitable to enhance the efficiency of the taxation system. The meeting delved into various proposals for the restructuring of the FBR, recognizing the need for a strategic overhaul to meet the evolving demands of the economic landscape.

Acknowledging recent efforts to curb smuggling, the prime minister commended the progress but emphasized the necessity for continued hard work to achieve sustained results in this regard.
