President Alvi announces Punjab, K-P elections on April 9

Islamabad: President Dr. Arif Alvi has announced the date of elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies.

President Arif Alvi has given the date of election in Punjab and KP Assemblies on April 9. The President announced the date of election under Section 57-A of the Election Act, 2017.

President Arif Alvi said that the Election Commission should issue the election program under Section 57-2 of the Constitution. I have taken an oath under the Constitution to protect and defend the Constitution.

Arif Alvi said that there is no prohibition order from the judicial forum, no prohibition order, so there is no obstacle in the exercise of authority under Section 57-1, the Constitution and the law do not allow a delay of more than 90 days, to avoid violation of the Constitution. Therefore, I consider it necessary to fulfill my constitutional and legal duty.

He said that the governors of Punjab and KP are not fulfilling their constitutional obligations of giving the election date in 90 days, the Election Commission is also not fulfilling its constitutional obligation to conduct elections in Punjab and KP. Both constitutional offices are putting the ball in each other’s court in a “first-in, first-out” manner, creating delays and grave risk of constitutional violations.

The President of the State said that the Election Commission has indicated the possible dates of the elections in its various letters. Started a serious process of consultation with the Election Commission to announce the date of the elections. The Election Commission excused itself from participating in the meeting on this subject, so I am announcing April 9 as the date for the elections to the Provincial Assemblies under Section 57 One.
