WEB DESK: Security forces killed 32 militants in separate intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan over the past 24 hours, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations targeted members of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), referred to by the military as “Fitna al Khwarij,” and militant networks in Balochistan, which it referred to as “Fitna al Hindustan,” as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate militants and their facilitators.
In Khyber district, security forces carried out multiple intelligence-based operations during the night of July 28 and 29, killing 24 militants after engaging several militant hideouts, the ISPR said.
In a separate operation in Nushki district of Balochistan, security forces killed eight militants following what the military described as an intense exchange of fire. The ISPR said weapons, ammunition and improvised explosive devices recovered during the operation were destroyed.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif commended the security forces for the successful operations, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The prime minister praised the professionalism of the officers and personnel involved in the operations that resulted in the killing of 24 militants in Khyber district and eight militants in Nushki district.
“We will continue the war against terrorism until this menace is completely eliminated from the country,” the prime minister said, adding that security forces were taking effective action against elements seeking to undermine Pakistan’s peace and stability.
He said the entire nation stood shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces in their resolve to safeguard the country.
The ISPR said sanitisation operations were continuing in both areas to eliminate any remaining militants and reaffirmed that the counterterrorism campaign under the Azm-e-Istehkam framework approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan would continue at full pace.
