Islamabad: In a press conference held in Islamabad, Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti revealed that thousands of tons of urea have been seized in a series of successful anti-smuggling operations conducted across the country. The minister addressed a range of issues related to smuggling and illegal activities, emphasizing the government’s commitment to tackling these challenges head-on.
Bugti highlighted the comprehensive crackdown on smuggling, encompassing actions against sugar, fertilizer, and dollar smuggling. Additionally, efforts have begun to target individuals involved in hawala transactions and smuggling activities. The interim interior minister left no room for leniency towards smugglers, promising strict action against those found guilty.
“We are determined to root out smuggling and illegal activities in Pakistan,” Bugti asserted. He urged the public’s cooperation in facing the nation’s current economic challenges, emphasizing the need for unity and collective efforts.
The caretaker government plans to promote legal trade within the country and will reward individuals who provide information leading to successful smuggling apprehensions. Those involved in hoarding will also face severe consequences, as the government aims to ensure the fair distribution of essential commodities.
Bugti announced the establishment of a hotline by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for citizens to report complaints related to smuggling and illegal activities, encouraging the public to utilize this resource.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to its limited mandate, Bugti urged Pakistan to focus on addressing current issues and avoid dwelling on the past. He emphasized that the caretaker government would relentlessly pursue its mission to resolve these challenges.
In response to concerns about abducted children, the interior minister reassured the public that efforts were underway to recover them through search operations and other means. He also acknowledged the Afghan government’s commitment to preventing its territory from being used for illegal activities, vowing a strong response from Pakistan to any attacks.
