ISLAMABAD: The Tehreek Tahafuz Aain Pakistan (TTAP) has announced its support for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) October 4 march on Islamabad, confirming that the opposition alliance will participate in the protest.
TTAP spokesperson Akhunzada Hussain Ahmed Yousafzai said on Monday that the alliance would join the march because PTI was part of the opposition grouping.
He said the alliance leadership had unanimously declared the September 27 protest call a joint initiative and had also finalised a strategy for protests in Sindh and Balochistan.
Yousafzai said detailed consultations had been held with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister and PTI leadership regarding the September 27 march, which was subsequently postponed.
According to the spokesperson, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had clarified that the decision to postpone the protest was taken by PTI’s political committee.
He said PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan had contacted opposition alliance leaders before the committee announced its decision.
Yousafzai said the opposition leaders had conveyed to Gohar that every day from September 27 onwards was important in the prevailing political situation and that the opportunity to advance their demands should not be overlooked.
He added that the alliance considered the current circumstances crucial for the country’s democratic future and the supremacy of the Constitution.
The spokesperson said the opposition alliance had already discussed its protest strategy and that consultations among the allied parties would continue to determine the future course of action.
He confirmed that TTAP and its allied parties would participate in the October 4 march, adding that coordination among the parties was under way.
Earlier, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi offered negotiations to the federal government, saying there were still seven days to resolve the matter through dialogue.
The planned march comes amid continuing political tensions between the opposition and the federal government over PTI’s demands and its protest strategy.
