ISLAMABAD: The first meeting of the Council of National Coordinators (CNC) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) under Pakistan’s chairmanship of the Council of Heads of State was held in Islamabad from September 28 to 30.
The three-day meeting was chaired by Pakistan’s National Coordinator for the SCO and attended by national coordinators from SCO member states and representatives of the SCO Secretariat.
During the meeting, the national coordinators reviewed the programme of planned activities under Pakistan’s chairmanship and took stock of progress on key initiatives.
They also discussed preparations for forthcoming SCO meetings and events and exchanged views on strengthening coordination among member states and ensuring effective implementation of Pakistan’s chairmanship priorities.
The discussions were held in line with Pakistan’s theme for the SCO chairmanship, “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity.”
As part of the programme, SCO delegations and representatives of the SCO Secretariat visited the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), where they were introduced to Pakistan’s cultural heritage and diverse artistic traditions.
The delegation also visited the Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium and was briefed on arrangements for hosting the SCO Hockey Tournament from November 20 to December 2, 2026.
The national coordinators were also briefed on preparations for the tournament, which is being organised as part of Pakistan’s SCO chairmanship programme.
On September 30, the participating national coordinators called on Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Dar highlighted Pakistan’s priorities for its SCO chairmanship and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to working closely with all member states to advance the organisation’s objectives.
The meeting concluded with agreed outcomes, with the participating national coordinators reaffirming their commitment to SCO goals and to advancing the organisation’s objectives through continued engagement and practical cooperation.
