Pakistan facilitates repatriation of eight rescued Iranian fishermen

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has successfully facilitated the repatriation of eight Iranian fishermen who were rescued at sea by a British vessel after their boat ran aground, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced on Monday.

Dar said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with Pakistan’s maritime authorities, worked closely with Iranian and British officials to ensure the fishermen’s safe transit through Pakistan and their prompt return to Iran.

According to the deputy prime minister, the fishermen departed from Karachi for Iran earlier on Monday.

“Glad to share that the eight Iranian fishermen rescued at sea by the British vessel MMA Valour after their boat ran aground have been successfully repatriated,” Dar said in a post on X.

He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all relevant Pakistani authorities coordinated closely with their Iranian and UK counterparts to facilitate the safe transit and early return of the Iranian nationals.

Dar also thanked Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi for the confidence placed in Pakistan throughout the repatriation process and appreciated the cooperation of all domestic and international stakeholders involved in ensuring the fishermen’s safe return.

Pakistan and Iran share a maritime border where fishermen from both countries are occasionally stranded or detained after drifting into international or territorial waters due to poor navigation equipment or technical faults.
